Timeline

We are celebrating our 23rd year of full-time ministry work that Rev. Dr. John A. Mayer first began on October 29, 1995. We are thankful to the Lord in how He has used us in ministry and we are thankful for our hundreds of ministry partners and friends that prayed for and gave financially to our ministry work. THANK YOU! WE COULDN’T DO MINISTRY WITHOUT YOU!

HERE’S HOW YOU CAN HELP

In celebration of our 23 years in ministry we would ask those churches and individuals that have never donated to us to please bless us with a one-time special financial donation. If you are a church or individual that the ministry work of City Vision then we would ask you also to give us a special one-time financial donation to City Vision in honor of our 23rd anniversary. All your gifts are fully tax deductible and you can enclose these gifts in the envelope enclosed or you can always give your gifts by credit card online at the CV website. Over our history we have worked with 1,378 churches and ministries from 68 denominations from many ethnic/immigrant groups:

  • 16 editions of the CityView Report book produced from 1996
  • 24,000+ have participated in one of the Discover Your City Tours

TIMELINE

The following timeline highlights some of the results of our ministry work in the Twin Cities and around the US and the world.

1995:    John A. Mayer officially forms a ministry on October 29, 1995.
1995:    Becomes part of the Mission Twin Cities Leadership Team.
1995:    Help plan and organize the Discover Your City Conference with 65 pastors/leaders attending.
1995:    Heads up Spiritual Mapping/Research Task Force.
1996:    Research and information used as part of the Billy Graham Crusade in Minneapolis.
1996:    First CityView Report created.
1996:    First Discover Your City Tour conducted.
1996:    Writes new Urban Ministry curriculum at the college and Master’s level for North Central University used as part of the City Gate Project and also taught by John Mayer.
1997:    Help plan and organize Twin Cities Leadership Consultation with 197 pastors/leaders attending.
1998:    Help plan and organize Twin Cities Ethnic Evangelization Network Conference with 144 attending.
1998:    Help plan and organize World Religions Dialogue at Wooddale Church with  Christian,, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, and Jewish speakers discussing “How can I know there is a God,” with over 2,000 attending.
1998:    Help plan and organize Convoy of Hope held in Phillips Neighborhood with 50,000 lbs. of free food/supplies given out to 4,000 people with 400 making decisions for Christ.
1999-2003:    Forms and facilitates and acts as fiscal agent for Somali Strategic Partnership which later leads to first Somali church plant in the US.
2000:    Founding member of the Nehemiah Ministry Center in Downtown Minneapolis.
2000:    Organizes first Somali Strategic Partnership Consultation with
60 attending.
2000:    Help plan and organize Twin Cities Leadership Consultation with 269 pastors/leaders attending.
2001:    Conceives and helps organize 9/11 Citywide Prayer Event at the Metrodome on September 16, 2001 with 24,000 attending.
2001:    Organizes second Somali Strategic Partnership Consultation with 80 attending.
2002:    Help plan and organize citywide prayer event, the Invitation, at the Metrodome with 7,000 attending.
2003:    Fiscal agent and help plan and organize third Ethnic America Summit with John Mayer serving as Co-Chair and with 1,200 attending.
2003:    Help form and facilitate Tibetan Strategic Partnership.
2004:    Help organize and plan first Tibetan Strategic Partnership Consultation with 85 attending.
2004:    Research and information used as part of the Luis Palau Festival in the Twin Cities with over 200,000 attending.
2005:    Help organize and plan Midwest Gathering of Nations Native American Conference with 200 attending.
2006:    Help create new urban cross-cultural degree program U4C with John Mayer teaching courses.
2006:    Help organize and plan Unity Conference with 150 attending.
2006:    Form, facilitate, and fiscal agent for the Liberian Strategic Partnership.
2007:    John Mayer interviewed on the MissionShift DVD six part series on glocal/diaspora changes in America.
2008:    Conducts Pastors/Leaders Focus Group with 50 attending.
2008:    John Mayer interviewed in feature article for Christianity Today magazine.
2009-2011:    Become Area Supervisor for Perspectives classes in MN holding six Perspectives classes with over 200 students.
2010:    Speaker at meetings with the US Center for World Missions in Pasadena, CA.
2011:    Organize and Plan Coalition of Muslim Ministries in America (COMMA) VII with John Mayer as Co-Chair with 150 attending.
2011:    Host Bridges One Day Seminar on Reaching Muslims for Crescent Project with 120 attending.
2011:    Conduct Discover Your City Tour of Detroit and speak to 75 pastors/leaders in Detroit.
2011:    Detroit, MI is researched.
2012:    On the Planning Team for the 4th North American Refugee Round Table.
2012:    Organize and plan and fiscal agent for Second Tibetan Strategic Partnership Consultation with 70 attending.
2014:    Research and information used as part of the Revive Twin Cities outreach with over 7,000 participating.
2014:    Organize and plan Bikeable Church Conference with 60 attending.
2014:    Elkhart and LaGrange Counties in Indiana are researched.
2015:    Greater Tupelo, MS is researched.
2015:    Montgomery, Al is researched.
2015:    “The Great Commission in Reverse” article published in Global Missiology Journal written by John Mayer.
2015:    City Vision Institute launched.
2015-present:    MERGE planning team for immigrant outreach
2016:    Greater Dallas/Ft. Worth Texas researched.
2017:    Greater Phoenix, AZ researched.
2017:    U.S. Black Megachurches researched.
2017:    Greater Syracuse, NY researched.
2018:    Greater Fargo/Moorhead Metro Area, ND/MN researched
2018:    Help form TTI (The Timothy Initiative (TTI) Twin Cities Church Planting Partnership with goal to plant 1,000 new immigrant and other churches in the next 10 years
2018:    Greater Spokane, WA researched
